A systematic examination of an existing road location, in which an independent and qualified team reviews on-site conditions and historical evidence to identify existing or potential road safety problems and suggest measures to mitigate those

Objectives

The objectives of the Road Safety Appraisals on existing roads are as follows:

The Empangeni region was visited

After a start was made in assessing the initial list of 20 high priority roads as received from KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport (KZN DoT) officials, there was a need to look at the other provincial roads in the province.

Roads from Ladysmith region were added to the program

This region was visited on Monday 4 September 2017 in order to gain knowledge of the roads in this region thought to require the most urgent assessment.

After that the Durban region was visited

 with the same purpose: to consult with the KZN DoT officials in the region to determine what roads require most attention in terms of road safety.

Road Accidents

from 2013 data (blue lines) and 2016 (green lines) were also considered in compiling the program of road assessment.
