Appraisal Protocol

The Appraisal Team is established from members of Escongweni Engineers. The Appraisal Team have had no detailed involvement with the design of the subject under review.

The appraisal was carried out in accordance with the South African Road Safety Audit Manual, May 2012. Due to the nature of the road this appraisal can be considered a Stage 6 Road Safety Appraisal on an Existing Road as detailed in the Manual.

Whilst reference may be made to certain design standards, where safety may be compromised by a reduction in standard, this report is not intended to provide a design check. The Appraisal Team has only reported on matters that might have an adverse effect on road safety in the context of the chosen design. No attempt has been made to comment on the justification of the road or the appropriateness of the various elements. Consequently, the appraisers accept no responsibility for the existing layouts or configurations of the infrastructure.

The recommendations in this report refer to a means of mitigating against a safety problem or comment. There are likely to be various similar solutions that the Client may consider. In providing the Client’s Response, discussion on possible solutions is expected.

The Client’s response to this Stage 6 - RSA should be formally recorded and reported to the RSA team so that a record of the appraisal process is contained in the appropriate file.
