Item 2: Pedestrian loading and drop-off zone
Problem:
The drivers using the shoulder as a drop off zone for hitch hiker as well as loading. The existing road shoulder is 0.5m wide which is not enough for a normal vehicle to stop it also causing a hazard to oncoming traffic.
Implications:
The oncoming traffic swerve to the right turning lane to avoid stationary vehicle and this exposes risk to right turning vehicle as well as passenger being dropped.
Recommendation:
From the observation it can been seen that this spot is used on daily bases by traveller from Mid- Illovo to south side of the intersection. Formalisation of the bus bay can minimise the risk of crashes on this intersection
