The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport is responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the Road Safety on provincial roads.

Purpose of the Road Safety Appraisal

As stated in the South African Road Safety Audit (SARSA) Manual, a Stage 6 Road Safety Audits on Existing Roads (Road Safety Appraisals) has the following objectives:

Road Safety Appraisal Process

The appraisal process follows the steps shown on the flow chart (Figure 3.1 in the Road Safety Audit Manual) on the next page, making appropriate adjustments for the site-specific conditions as required by the special case of an existing road.
